this digression is intentional, so go with me on this one…i was getting the kids ready to go this morning and my youngest decided to drop her milk and waffle to venture over to a toy garbage truck. happens all the time, right? i didn’t give it much thought until my drive in to work when i pondered the idea of dropping something so important (food!) in favor of a toy. i started to think about some other choices that people make that don’t make lots of sense to me, don’t fit the logic by which i generally live my life. i suppose it boils down to a very simple edict ‘what is important to me, isn’t going to be important to others’. the converse may be the more important lesson for me – what others find important won’t always jive with what i consider to be a priority. working with people is tough, i think we often overlook the challenge that working closely with others sometimes pose to our modes of operation. don’t get me wrong, variety is the spice of life and i enjoy working in a social setting, but simplifying situations when dealing with others can be dangerous.

Well its the ol’ right brain left brain deal. You zig I zag. One has to think about why the truck was more important than the waffle. The truck has greater possibilities than a waffle. It is motion and engages the whole body. Works with education, working situations, and life in general. Truly each person has a personal agenda, even in the workplace. Just like sports, the team that wins the Super Bowl works as a team, even though each player has a personal goal – when the pigskin meets the turf, the team that knows each other’s strengths and weaknesses and backs each other up wins.
Hey life is sometimes waffles and sometimes garbage trucks. The trick is to play with the garbage truck while eating the waffle and you get to have both.

Exactly what I did when I left my country to come over. There were many trade-offs – not being with my parents, sisters, and friends, having to do all the chores (having a maid over there to cook, clean, iron, among other things 24 hrs a day only cost$70!), not discriminated upon, etc. But then my kids’ future is so much promising over here … a tough choice but here I am ….

I dropped the waffle and spilled the milk when my head got turned by someone else’s priorities this week. I think it’s one of the reasons, productivity is at an all time low for many.
Checking off the main thing gets harder and harder when the folks approving your PC # turn your head.
