karl fisch blogged about this topic the other day and it reminded me of a similar post that bill ferriter had a while back. the idea of bringing people and experiences to the classroom and is catching on quickly, but i really like the way karl calls it an in-school field trip. if you have a speaker it’s tough to get them to be present for every class you teach, particularly if you have 3 or 4 sections of the same course. so if the speaking is going to be piped in during one period, why not have students from the other periods make their way to your room? a field trip would take up most of the day, this way the kids are only missing one class. interesting stuff. in my case, if i were to skype someone in during professional learning during one session, how do i manage that for subsequent sessions? it seems less authentic to show a recorded conversation.
