i was listening to a TED talk on one of my runs this weekend and it was talking about how journalism is faced with a conundrum regarding, what they referred to as mass amateurization.  it is the idea that anyone can put anything out there for public consumption and not be held to the same standards as print journalists in terms of divulging sources or other ethical behavior.  i found it interesting, particularly as i thought how that idea might relate the professional development.  the ‘professional’ part of the job i find myself in currently isn’t about the facilitator being professional, rather the type of development that is happening for the individual.  perhaps those in the professional development biz should be thought of as professional professional developers…right?  so what happens when a random teacher, who may be very knowledgeable in their field is asked to facilitate a professional learning session?  will it work?  a professional teacher can still be an amateur professional developer, correct?
